1. Let There be Light

With less light streaming through the windows as the days get shorter and the nights get longer, it's essential to fill your home with a warm glow. Rather than switching on all your ceiling lights try using fairy lights wrapped around your stair banister or draped over a fireplace. Candles give a romantic vibe to a room so choose ones with autumn scents or there's some great flameless candles available if you have small children or pets.

2. Treat Yourself to Texture

Our homes should be a place to retreat, a nest for all the family, so now's the time to add plenty of soft furnishings to snuggle up into. Try velvet cushions in a deep, warm colour on the bed, stepping out onto a luxurious shearling rug first thing on a morning makes getting up that bit easier and a faux fur throw on the sofa because let's face it, it's the best place to be over the next few months.

3. Go Green

According to Pinterest, this autumn's most popular colour for interiors is dark green. We love a statement wall but if you don't want to be quite so daring then try working this earthy, rich colour into your home with wall art, cushions, a statement armchair or a headboard for your bed. Pair this autumn hue with warm neutral tones for a relaxing, nature inspired feel.

4. Autumnal Wreaths

Who said wreaths are just for Christmas? Autumn deserves it's own celebration and we just love how colourful fallen leaves, mini pumpkins, berries and dried flowers celebrate the season perfectly and bring a much needed warmth to your home. Brighten up your front door and greet your guests with this instagram worthy look or make a feature of it and hang it above a fireplace or as part of a gallery wall.

5. The Art of Autumn

One of the simplest ways to refresh your home is to switch up the wall art you hang on the walls. Store your favourite prints somewhere safe and when you feel the need for a change you can swap out the design and instantly transform a room. This season why not try warm, rich hues of greens, oranges and reds or incorporate some nature inspired prints into your home. Alternatively go bright and bold and combat these darker months with cheerful, happy colours.
