A graphic designer and illustrator from Manchester, Alexandra Francis, has studied both fine art and graphic design. Alexandra loves mixing both practises to make colourful illustrations of animals and people. She is constantly trying to experiment with styles and enjoys getting inspiration from art museums and galleries.
I can't ride a bike - I want to learn though!
When I was younger I used to drive my parents crazy drawing on the wall. I grew up loving art and went on to study fine art at university.
My friends inspire me a lot. It sounds cliche but seeing them thrive and succeed makes me want to do well myself.
I wake up, hop on a tram and go to work in a design studio in Manchester. I make illustrations and website designs. When I get home I draw, paint and make illustrations on my laptop. I'm lucky enough to love what I do at work and at home.
Go outside, watch a movie - just get away from the screen. Anything can inspire you, even if it is going to the pub.
Im still very new to illustration but I really enjoyed working with a nordic outdoor swimming pool. I got to make some cool illustrations of people swimming and wave patterns.
I use a mix of digital and non digital tools. I always start with a sketch and then use my Wacom tablet to draw in Photoshop.
Art Galleries. There's so much inspiration not just in the artworks but how they are framed, exhibited - even the colour of the walls in the galleries.
Keep putting your work out there. If its Instagram, Twitter or Tumblr. If you're consistent someone is bound to see your work.
My dream project would be to illustrate posters for a video game! I love the artwork from games like Journey and Firewatch.
