Andrew Charles studied BA (Hons) Illustration at Hereford College of Arts. His process usually involves a mixed media element, whether it be collage, using texture, animating or an augmented reality digital layer. Andrew want to explore new ways to visually communicate, combining the real and the digital to create interesting narratives in editorial, advertising and storytelling.
I worked in a Fish & Chip shop for about 5 years before going on to do my illustration degree.
Nicola Davies, Hay festival, Open Sky productions.
I have always been interested in art and it was something that I did for fun as a kid. I eventually did my A levels in Art, Photography and business, after this I was slightly lost, so went to work. It took a break up and a house move to finally push me into a degree in Illustration and was the best idea I have ever had.
I love a B9 pencil, Ink rollers for textures, my trusty Wacom tablet and Photoshop to bring it all together.
People who are excited about things! Colour, films, comics, tv, video games, music, good design, books, I could go on.
People.
Travel illustration
I am currently doing a graduate ambassador role at Hereford College of Arts so work a 9 to 5 job in the marketing team. So I get up at around 6:20, leave the house at 8 (I live about an hour away) I get to work at 9 check my emails, Some days I could be off to schools to do some fun workshops, other days I could be off to a college to talk about the art college. I get to travel a lot to go to career fairs! Its great talking to students who are interested in art & design, I find their enthusiasm contagious. When I get home at around 6 I spend most my time illustrating! (sometimes playing video games) If its a weekend I try and travel places to do some reportage drawing and drink way to much coffee.
Keep going.
Don't be afraid to work a day job, but do something interesting and let it inform your illustration.
