Tell us a fun fact about you

On Wednesdays I run an art club for KS3 students!

How did you get into illustration?

From a young age I have always enjoyed drawing so I decided to do a foundation course in Art and Design after college. From there I moved my focus to illustration, completing a BA(Hons) Illustration degree at university.

Who or what inspires you the most?

I grew up watching endless David Attenborough documentaries which really cemented my interest and love for drawing animals.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I am currently working as a teaching assistant in a secondary school, so Monday to Friday consist of an early start followed by a day of explaining concepts and methods of working (if there’s ever a chance to illustrate information on my whiteboard I am there!) Once home and with a cup of tea sorted, I’m reaching for my iPad or sketchbook to get going with developing my print shop or doing freelance work till the evening.

What do you do when you have a creative block?

I’ll get some fresh air and go to the gym before drawing something which seems completely random and off topic.

Top three clients you’ve worked with?

Being fairly new to freelance I have so far only worked with small local organisations and produced personal commissions as well as developing my own work which has all been good fun.

What tools (digital or not!) do you use to create your work?

I will often create roughs in pencil before moving onto the Procreate App on my iPad.

What’s your favourite resource for inspiration?

Nature documentaries and Pinterest.

Do you have any tips for artists thinking of doing freelance?

Just to go for it! Find what it is you love to draw and keep working and developing it.

What would your dream project be?

I would love to work on a children’s picture book!

How did you get into illustration? I was always painting and drawing so it seemed like a logic career path to me.

Who or what inspires you the most? Plants and flowers of course but traveling and my every day surroundings are always a great way to get inspired!

What does a typical day look like for you? Starting with a great breakfast afterwards checking and answering emails, and working and preparing orders. Painting in the afternoon and working on Instagram in the evening.
